Cookies Policy

This page explains the cookies and browser storage that Medical Study Atlas uses, and why. In short: we use only what the site needs to work and to remember your choices. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and no third-party cookies.

1. Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. We use one cookie:

Cookie What it does How long it lasts
sb-access-token Keeps you signed in, so protected pages and lecture files open for your account. Set by this site only (first-party), sent only over HTTPS. About 1 hour, renewed automatically while you use the site; removed when you sign out

This cookie is strictly necessary: without it you cannot stay signed in.

2. Browser storage

Like cookies, the site also saves a few small values in your browser's local storage (and one in session storage). They never leave your device except where noted.

Name What it does How long it lasts
sb-…-auth-token Your sign-in session (including the automatic guest account during free-access periods). Used to talk to our sign-in provider, Supabase. Until you sign out or clear site data
atlas-university, atlas-stage Remembers which university and stage you chose, so you don't have to pick again Until you change it or clear site data
atlas-theme Remembers light or dark mode Until you change it or clear site data
atlas-visits Counts your visits so the "install the app" suggestion is only shown to returning visitors Until you clear site data
atlas-install-dismissed Remembers that you closed the install suggestion, so it stays hidden for 14 days Until you clear site data
atlas-streak Old copy of your daily streak from before streaks were saved on your account; deleted automatically Removed on your next visit
atlas-reloaded-for (session storage) Lets the installed app update itself once when a new version of the site is published, without reloading in a loop Until you close the tab or app

3. Visitor statistics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to count page views and measure how fast pages load. They do not use cookies and do not store anything in your browser. Visitors are counted in an anonymous way that is reset every day, and we only see totals (for example, how many people visited a page), never who you are.
